Listening Map Project

Students will:

  • Work independently to create a listening map to one of the songs from Camille Saint-Saens Carnival of the Animals.

  • Present their listening map to the class, providing an explanation of how it follows the music.

STEP ONE

Choose your song! All songs are from Camille Saint-Saens Carnival of the Animals. Listen to all of the choices at least once before you decide.

Elephants

Cuckoo

Pianist

Aquarium

Aviary

Fossils

STEP TWO

Analyze your song. Use the provided listening sheet to analyze and take notes about the music, which will help you in planning you map. You can make additional notes on the back of the worksheet as needed. You will need to listen to your song a few times!

STEP THREE

Create a rough draft of your map on computer paper. This is not a finished product! Do not spend time on coloring or creating detailed drawings. Use this step to plan out where your landmarks will be on the map. Reference your listening sheet and listen to your song while you are working to be sure you are representing the music accurately. Check with Ms. Schafer before moving on to the next step.
